FAQ

Implantology
Costs
The prices depend on the initial situation, e.g. bone quality, numbers of implants to be inserted and type of prosthesis. Bone-regenerating measures increase the total price. Binding information can only be given on the basis of examination results. A rewarding investment: conventional dentures are not always the cheapest solution on a long term perspective. Although the financial effort of implantological solutions is bigger in the moment of intervention, it usually pays off during long years of perfect usage. The costs of such implantation processes vary according to the individual case.

Risks
Medical or surgical interventions are always linked to certain risks. Although the design of the implant, longterm experiences and new surgery technologies assure latest knowhow, complications may occur. Possible risks depend on the general health status of the patient. Bad oral hygiene or conditioned healing processes due to previous affections (e.g. diabetes, osteoporosis) can reduce the stability of the implant. Smokers, too, have to be conscious of a higher possibility of losing their implant during recovery time.

Pain
The insertion of the implant is generally executed under the effect of local anaesthesia, in order to have you painfree at all times. In case you would suffer from post operative pains, your dentist will be glad to help you acutely. Experience shows that a very small number of patients finds everyday-life problematic, even right after the operation.

Satisfaction
Good feeling: According to a study held with more than 10000 patients in Germany, 97% of the questioned persons was "very satisfied" or "satisfied" with their implant-supported solutions. The percentage of patients with this result carrying conventional dentures was only 86%.

Age group
Implants can be inserted as soon as the jaw has outgrown. Young patients, therefore, have to wait, until the bone has stopped growing. Implants to not require any age limits. Ask your dentist for advice: He will discuss your individual situation and have you see all the risks to be considered.

Implant care
An implant can last a lifetime. This requires only enough commitment by the patient. Implants require just as much care as natural teeth, even a bit more. Without diligent and conscient oral hygiene, having an implantologic solution makes little sense. Regular sittings with your dentist for controlling and prophylaxis purposes are indispensable.

In General

Bleeding gums
If your gums tend to bleeding even at the slightest stimulus, this may be an indication that it may be affected by some kind of disease. Mostly, these are inflammations of the gums which are caused by microorganisms, or, in case of dental prostheses, unfavourable completion rims. In order to get rid off these bacteria a diligent professional dental cleaning is necessary. By this, the teeth are freed from hard and soft stains, which do not only cause discolouring of the tooth surface, but also give microorganisms a place to hide from regular cleaning instruments. Another measure in strengthening your gums is adding extra folic acid and vitamines C+E to your body.

Halitosis - Bad breath
The reasons for halitosis are many, the important thing to remember is, that halitosis itself is not the disease, but a strong indicator for other major affections. We differentiate between shortterm bad breath, cuased by spicy food like onions and longterm, constant halitosis.

Calculus
Hardened and calcified stains become calculus. It can be traced in the majority of the people. Stains that are not removed for a long time can mineralise by contact with saliva. You mostly find calculus near the salivary glands, because this is where the highest concentration of minerals in the saliva is found. Since most of the salivary glands are located under the tongue, we find calculus on the inner side of the teeth, nearest to these areas.

Additional Dental Insurance
Average health insurances reduce their services and financiary supports in dental treatments as they are bliged by law to only pay the most essential supply of dental health care. They pay a fix sum according to the efforts caused, which generally covers only a minimum part of your expenses in the purchase of dental prostheses. The rest has to be paid by the patient himself. An additional dental insurance could be of help here, as it would cover great parts of the costs to be settled on the patient's side.
